Music at Wye

Wye Parish is expanding our music programs to bring music to our community and involving the community in its preparation and presentation.

Wye Choral Scholars

The first of these programs is the Wye Choral Scholars, in which a select, auditioned ensemble of Eastern Shore middle and high school students receive professional vocal training and rehearse and sing advanced music from diverse historical and cultural traditions. The annual cost of supporting a choral scholar is ca.$1500. Scholars receive monthly stipends of $80, of which $60 is invested monthly by the mid shore foundation into accounts dedicated to each scholars future education. The balance is paid monthly to each scholar for music related expenses. The scholars responsibilities include weekly rehearsal, singing at a weekly Sunday service (frequently in conjunction with the Wye Parish choir), and participating in special services and performances throughout the academic year. Enrollment in the program has averaged eight students since it's inauguration during the 2007-2008 season.

Wye Operetta Workshop (WOW!)

The second program, launched in 2008, involves Eastern Shore students grades 8 through college. In learning the nuances of opera and operetta -- the synthesis of the musical and visual arts with movement. The 3 week workshop provides and enriching experience through introduction to classical theatre. There has been no charge to the students, and the admission to performances and visits to shut-ins have been free. Now entering it's third season, WOW! has played to enthusiastic SRO audiences since it's inception.

2009 - 2010 Wye Concert Series

The third program presents a season series of four concerts of the highest quality, ranging from instrumental to vocal, sacred to secular, classical to jazz -- and lots in between. Since ticket sales cover only a small percentage of these considerable costs associated with concerts such as these, and with out other community programs, we are dependent on the generosity of friends like you.
