Exercises in the workshop explore the historical development and power dynamics of racism, the social construction of racial identity, and an analysis of three manifestations of racism - individual, institutional, and cultural. The workshop helps Unitarian Universalists to develop a Unitarian Universalist (UU) spiritual and theological grounding for anti-racism and anti-oppression action.

Ongoing Activities at UUCA

A.D.O.R.E.

A Dialogue On Race and Ethnicity (ADORE) has been meeting monthly for nine years at All Souls Church as an open community offering a safe space for all of them to discuss race and ethnicity as frankly and thoughtfully as they can. The programs founder Paula Cole-Jones facilitates the dialogue here at UUCA on the 4th Thursday of every month at 6:30pm . We invite you to bring a small dish to share and will begin our dialogue at 7pm. And end at 9pm. Consider joining ADORE regularly or irregularly, help us explore matters of race and ethnicity at UUCA and in the broader culture, and help dismantle racism.

BUILDING THE WORLD WE DREAM ABOUT (BTW)

This curriculum seeks to interrupt the workings of racism and transform how people from different racial/ethnic groups understand and relate to each other. It creates an opportunity wherein participants can practice dreaming our world otherwise, and then commit to new, intentional ways of being. UUCA was selected as a site to test this pilot curriculum and a group has been underway since January. Names are currently being collected of people who might be interested in participating in a second class.
