Ellen Scarborough was born and raised in McLean, Virginia - atEllen Scarborough that time a sleepy little town that was not yet impacted by the presence of Tyson’s Corner Shopping Center or the Central Intelligence Agency. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education, with teaching fields in English and French, at Shepherd College in West Virginia. Work experience over the years has included office manager stints for a law firm, for three delegates at the Maryland General Assembly, and for her husband’s retail business. More recently, while working as executive assistant to the director for administration and the director for overseas operations at Catholic Relief Services, Ellen, along with her husband Ashley, opened a bed and breakfast in Federal Hill, Baltimore.

As executive assistant to the bishop and synod office manager, Ellen keeps the bishop’s calendar and manages the logistics of his various appointments. She is staff liaison to the Synod Council, the Mission Through Partnerships team and the Synod Personnel Committee. Additionally, she provides support to the Finance Committee, the Substance Abuse Task Force, the Colehower Committee and the Constitution Committee.

Volunteerism over the years has included Meals On Wheels, providing transportation to English lessons for immigrants, assisting at a retreat house, writing liturgies for women’s church services, managing a church folk music group and serving as lector.

She is the mother of three married children and grandmother of five.
