Do you possess a desire to improve the plight of people who are hungry or in need, whether they are around the corner or around the world?
Becoming a Congregational Representative for the ELCA World Hunger Appeal can provide you that opportunity.
- Responsibilities include:
- Participating in a Delaware-Maryland Synod network coordinated by the Hunger Mission Force for the purpose of encouraging enthusiastic support of the ELCA World Hunger Appeal as an effective means of combating and eradicating hunger in our neighborhoods, in our country, and in our world. R
- eviewing material available from the ELCA World Hunger Appeal headquarters in Chicago and selecting and ordering various types of resources to use to promote awareness within your congregation.
- Periodically using these materials by inserting them in bulletins, including in monthly or quarterly church mailings to the congregation, or posting in strategic locations within the church building, all to promote awareness of the cause of hunger.
- Two or three times a year - but particularly on a Sunday close to World Food Day [October 16] - organizing or conducting a short presentation to the congregation focusing on the World Hunger Appeal, Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Disaster Response, and other similar appeals.
- Working with the Congregation Council to see that the Hunger Appeal is included in the annual budget, setting an annual goal and keeping track on a quarterly basis of the status of total contributions made toward reaching this goal.
- If possible, incorporating Hunger Appeal activities into the work of the Social Ministry Committee.
