Synod to commemorate King birthday

Annually, the Delaware-Maryland Synod sets aside one Sunday to commemorate the birthday of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. For 2008, the event is set for Jan. 13 at 4 p.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, Pimlico. The worship service, which features a massed choir, musicians, and a liturgical dance group, is being organized by the Baltimore chapter of the African American Lutheran Association (AALA). Guest preacher for the service will be the Rev. Lucille Mills, Rejoice Lutheran Church, Chesapeake, Va. Assistant to the Bishop Virginia Price will preside. A reception

St. John's church is located at the corner of Pimlico Rd. and Cold Spring Lane (4403 Pimlico Rd.), Baltimore, MD 21215. Founded in 1908, the congregation has been served since 1997 by the Rev. Gregg Knepp.
