What Can I Expect When I Attend Church at St. James'?

Everyone is welcome at St. James. We really do enjoy seeing visitors and newcomers at our doors and in our pews, and strive to make sure everyone feels comfortable and accepted.

We understand that one might feel a bit awkward upon visiting a church for the first time. If you have attended an Episcopal worship service before, you will be more familiar with the components of worship. Perhaps we a re a different denomination than the one you are accustomed to. Please don't worry about "getting it right." If our style of worship is new to you, we will do our best to help you follow along. Our clergy will guide you through the service, clearly telling you which book to use. Enjoy your visit with us, by savoring the beauty of our historical church, and the richness of our worship service.

After the service, there will be an opportunity to meet other people in our congregation. A coffee hour is held in the parish hall after the 9:00 and 11:00 services (10:00 service in the summer). Please join us for a cup of coffee or tea and enjoy our delicious snacks. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet others, as well as giving us the opportunity to meet you!

If you have children, Sunday School is held at 10:00, fall through spring. If you are attending the 9:00 service, the children will be directed to their classes, just prior to announcements. The children follow the Sunday School banner. There are opportunities for adults to attend classes, if they so desire. Children of all ages are welcome at both services at St. James'. The first Sunday of the month is the Children's service at the 9:00 service, and there is a special sermon for the children.
