An Album of Real Outbacks
If you have a picture you'd like to share, please email an electronic copy or for my address to send a photo. If possible, please include any relevant info - name, location, difficulty, etc. I'll do my best to put your Outback where the world can see it. I also will post any stories of trips you've taken that showed the Outback's capabilities. Click on any image to get a larger view, and maybe some text to go with it...

1. My Outback... which started the craze for me.
|
2. The official Ski Association Outback passed through Baltimore on its way to the Olympics (vaguely note the GA license plate on the left pic)
|
3. Some pix of Nathan Mesnikoff's Outback, in Utah's Arches National Park. He and his girlfriend took their '96 5-speed into some deep sand and some *very* minimal roads, and were kind enough to send me some pictures of their trip.
|
4. Mitsuharu Hadeishi's Wild Ride
|
5. Off the beaten trail. A co-worker's Outback pauses while enjoying a local construction zone. No, the front-end loader in the background is *NOT* poised to attack!
|
6. Crossing Upper Half-moon Creek: I've also attached a photo that I took of my Outback running down the center of Half Moon Creek near Leadville, Colorado. A necessary move as the forest service road that was supposed to cross the creek was in bad shape. About a 100 foot trek, about 6 to 12 inches deep. No problem. Of course, I had to park the car only 200 yards further because the lack of a low range made it impossible to climb up a short steep section that was covered in large rocks. Oh well. 7. Ben Huang sends these images of his Outback, showing a Turn3 intake kit and extra driving lights.

8. Fraser Island, in Queensland, Australia... Pix are of Mark Hone's '98 Outback (dual-range): " The only way onto Fraser Island is by barge and a 4wd I was a bit hesitant at first and travelled with another famiy who had a Toyota Landcruiser, any way to cut a long story short the Outback towed this trailer through sand sometimes at least 12" thick and also up over sand dunes especially when the trailer was off and at camp, in fact it made some of the driving easier than the bigger 4wd's due to the weight factor and also to the fact that you can switch to hi and low range on the fly. There are many creek crossings on Fraser and it also did this with ease."

From Ernie "here is a picture of my 1998 outback, doing a stream crossing in Vermont"

Alex Silbajoris writes: "KOKOCAR is the shot of the car in the Kokosing River at Milwood, Ohio. This is a cobblestone gravel riverbed; when the water is low, you can drive a short way in the bed. Note the gravel road dust on the back of the car - and the lack of a dust deflector... PARKED shows the car on a piece of abandoned roadbed in a reclaimed strip mine area outside of Nelsonville, Ohio. This picture explains why I ordered the car in dark green." Incidently, you *MUST* visit Alex's web page. His travelogues contain stunning pictures and entertaining text and also show his Outback doing what it was made for. |

And from Colin Mann in Nova Scotia: " I love your site and thought you might like to have some pics of my '97 Subie Outback doing a little 'light logging' in Nova Scotia. It was a perfect winter day with about 6-8 inches of fresh snow down. We had some wood to get in for fuel at our cottage and this seemed like the perfect way to do it. A set of Michelin Alpins and the Outback did a great job." |
