WORSHIP AND MUSIC

Worship is an important part of our life together. It is where we hear God’s word and receive the sacraments (Baptism and Holy Communion). It is where we pray together. It is where we sing. Sometimes our worship is formal and very structured. Sometimes our worship is more informal and casual. Sometimes we are quite serious. Sometimes we have a lot of fun. Always we are in worship to praise God.

We are well-known for having many gifted musicians as a part of Our Shepherd Lutheran Church. We have three adult choirs, several vocal ensembles, a youth/adult praise band, 2 handbell choirs, 3 children’s choirs and instrumentalists. Our repertoire ranges from traditional liturgical through gospel to contemporary. See our events calendar for rehearsal times.

Rejoicing Spirits, a monthly inclusive, adapted worship ministry reaches out to enrich the spiritual lives of people with developmental disabilities, their families, friends and other supportive community members. Join us the 2nd Sunday of each month at 4 p.m. for fellowship, followed by worship at 4:30 p.m.

Children are welcome in worship We believe that faith is "caught," not "taught," and Sunday morning is important to us as a worshipping community. Adults and children need to be together at this time. Worship is one of the basic ways in which people are formed in their faith and learn what it is to be a Christian. Moreover, children learn worship by worshipping with the congregation. They learn that they belong to Christ and are welcome in his church. They participate in the proclamation of God's Word and in the sacraments of Holy Baptism and Holy Communion. They "learn" God's kindness, favor, love and forgiveness. Children need to worship regularly, from their earliest years. We all learn best by doing, and understand more clearly that which is concrete rather than abstract... that which is caught, rather than that which is taught! We have a Children's Order of Worship available to help children follow along and participate more fully in the liturgy, as well as a variety of children's Bibles for use during worship.

Other congregations are taking an interest in our Children's Order of Worship. We're happy to share. We are interested in who is using it and how your families are responding to it. If you decide to use it in your congregation, we would appreciate you informing the church office or one of our pastors.
