Thank you for choosing Edwards Recoil Reducer. Edwards has been the World’s leader in recoil reduction since 1965. In order to achieve maximum satisfaction with this unit, it is recommended that these directions be followed exactly, and no alterations, except those discussed below, be performed. Altering this unit by any other means will void the lifetime warrantee.
Single Installation
The illustration below is for installing a single adjustable unit. A 1” FLAT BOTTOM bit should be used, and the hole drilled ¼” deeper than the length of the reducer being installed. The hole MUST be parallel to, and slightly above, the drawbolt hole. If the stock has an adjustable comb, it may be necessary to install the reducer below, or as the last resort, in the drawbolt hole. Note: If the unit is installed in the drawbolt hole, it will be necessary to install a piece of wooden dowel in the bottom of the hole to keep the end plug in the front of the reducer from being driven out during the recoil reduction cycle. If no drawbolt hole exists, locate the 1” hole slightly above the center of the rear of the stock, and parallel to the comb. Once the hole has been drilled, insert the unit using a wide blade screwdriver. A slight side-to-side twisting
motion will assist in the installation. DO NOT DRIVE REDUCER IN
Adjustable Reducer WITH A HAMMER!! If the unit is too tight to be inserted without
tearing
the adjusting lugs, remove a wrap of tape from either end and reinstall. DO
NOT remove the lugs themselves or the adjustment feature will be lost. If the
unit turns too freely, remove and add several wraps of electrical tape on top of
the adjusting cams. Re-install and adjust per the instruction below.
Drawbolt Hole
LEFT HANDED SHOOTER: Install with the cross at the position of the
hour hand on the clock when the time is 6:30. If the gun kicks the face,
remove the recoil pad and, using a wide blade screwdriver, rotate the reducer
counterclockwise. If it kicks the shoulder, turn clockwise. Adjust no more
than the thickness of a dime each time. Continue until satisfied.
RIGHT HANDED SHOOTER: Install with the cross at the position of the hour hand on the clock when
the time is 5:30. If the gun kicks the
face, remove the recoil pad and, using a wide blade screwdriver, rotate the
reducer clockwise. If it kicks the shoulder, turn counterclockwise. Adjust no
more than the thickness of a dime each time. Continue until satisfied.
Following adjustment, insert the rubber washers provided so that they protrude slightly from the stock. It may be necessary to taper the washers on a sander to ensure the amount protruding is as nearly uniform as possible. If the washers fail to protrude a minimum of 1/16”, use additional 1” washers. The goal is to squeeze the retainers when the pad is installed to prevent the unit from turning. After allowing for break-in (100 rounds if clay target shooting, 10 rounds if a rifle), remove the recoil pad and the rubber retainers and place a short piece of wooden dowel against the recoil pad end of the reducer. Tap lightly with a hammer. This action will lock the knurled front of the reducer into the wood and, in combination with the retainers, prevent the unit from turning. Replace retainers and recoil pad and enjoy years of recoil free shooting!
