The spring regatta schedule was presented and schools signed up
for regattas.
Financial Report: MASSA bank balance $968.18: The financial report
was unanimously accepted.
New Business:
Announcements:
MASSA to host Baker next school year in 2000.
MASSA will host Cressy in 2002 and the Mallory in 2003.
Note: MASSA has no separate bylaws - the Director is a member of
the ISSA board of directors. MASSA nominates a member to the
ISSA board . Each member school has a vote at the ISSA annual
meeting.
Old business:
Last year the Cressy elimination was in the spring because the
National championship was also in the spring. The laser
regattas were all in the spring. A Motion was made not
to restrict holding Laser Regattas in the spring.
The final motion was that there should be no restriction
to the number of Laser Regattas in the spring or fall. Passed
unanimously.
New Business:
Motion: MASSA should award trophies for both a Spring Doublehanded
and a Fall Doublehanded Championship in addition to the Fall and
Spring Championship. Passed.
Should we combine the spring doublehanded championship with the
eliminations? A concensus was to have a later championship
regatta because the eliminations need to be early enough to
allow for 14 days advance airplane ticket purchases. This
will give the teams a continued incentive to practice.
Motion: Recommend to ISSA to hold the Baker the weekend before
Memorial Day and the Mallory 2 weekends before Memorial Day
weekend. Passed unanimously.
There was discussion about regional events within the District
and a search for alternate ways to join MASSA/ISSA. No
conclusions at this time.
Motion: Allow 7th grades to compete in MASSA events. Lengthy
discussion. Motion tabled and not voted on.
Cressy National Championships will be in both Radial and Full
Rig Lasers. How should we select MASSA representatives?
Motion: Hold a single day eliminations regatta in both full
and radial rig lasers. Competitors must decide in advance
at an advance registration which one they will use in the
regatta.
They may no subsequently change (or withdraw and re-enter).
Passed unanimously.
There was extensive discussion on the prohibition of coaching
before protest hearings. This rule is similar to Optimist
rules but colleges allow protest coaching. No motions were made.
Bill Schneider was nominated as director of MASSA and as the
nomination to the ISSA Board of Directors. The vote passed.
Meeting adjournment motion passed. |
