Community Action Ministry
"I was hungry and you fed me..." Matthew 25:35
- Nursery - While we encourage children in worship, we have a nursery which is a bright, cheerful, well-stocked place for children ages infant-5. With paid staff it, is a safe place for the little ones who are in need of a place to stretch out and play during worship.
- LARS (Laurel Area Resource Service) is sponsored by the Laurel Ministerium to provide support and programs for the area’s most needy. HTLC provides financial support as well as “in kind” support to the program.
- Walk For The Hungry is an annual program sponsored by LARS and supported by HTLC to receive grant funds from the Fannie Mae Corporation. Held on a Sunday afternoon in September, walkers pay a fee to register and/or collect donations to walk.
- Liberia Project - In 2004 we sent a container of desperately needed supplies to the Lofa region of Liberia. We continue our long-standing relationship with this region as it rebuilds after the affects of a devastating civil war. Financial donations are always accept to support the Liberian people in their rebuilding.
- Thanksgiving/Christmas Baskets - Supporting the Youth ministry this provides for the needy of the Laurel area.
- Souper Bowl Sunday - Along with the youth, money is collected on Super Bowl Sunday to support local feeding programs. In 2006, over $350 was collected for LARS.
- Food For The Hungry is an ongoing project. Canned and boxed food may be placed in a container in the Welcome Center to be given to LARS and Elizabeth House to feed local hungry.
- Elizabeth House provides a hot evening meal for the needy. HTLC is responsible the fourth Tuesday each month. We cook, set up, clean up, and make sandwiches for the next day.
- Easter Baskets and Adopt-A-Family are projects to support LARS. Items are gathered at Christmas and Easter to give to local individuals in need.
- Neighbors In Need is a fund which provides financial support to members of the congregation in crisis. Requests may be made to the pastor(s).
- World Hunger Appeal, St. Dysmas Prison Ministry, and Diakon all receive budgeted donations from the church offerings to support their ministries.
