 The house is located minutes from "downtown" Chincoteague with its many shops, restaurants and fishing industry. The beach is also a short drive by car or by bike.

The most popular Island residents
are the Chincoteague ponies. Made famous by the books of Marguerite Henry (Misty, Sea
Star) and the movie filmed on the island, the ponies live wild on Assateague and the
refuge. Each year during Pony Penning (last week of July), the ponies are rounded up and
some of the herd is auctioned off to support the Chincoteague Fire Department.
During the week the carnival attracts visitors from all over the world with its rides and
booths.

| The Chincoteague National
Wildlife Refuge is a great place to walk, drive or bike, and look for the famous wild
ponies. The refuge is located along the East Coast migratory flyway and egrets, great blue
herons , Canada and snow geese and American bald eagles can be observed. A 3 mile scenic
loop enables walkers, bicycle riders, birders, photographers and runners to observe nature
close up. Further along on the island are a lighthouse and the Atlantic Ocean with a beach, shelters, lifeguards and parking.
