RIP: Alas, the keeper of the "intelligence report," Maurice Tamman, a reporter at Florida Today, says the task became too overwhelming and forced him to quit the project. Tamman has abandoned it and left it posted as an online memorial of what could have been, but his link is no longer working.  Sorry.

  • An extensive list of places to look for jobs in journalism with a nice little search engine.
  • A guide brought to my attention by Saul Daniels at the LA Times.
  • The site, by the way, has an interesting set of pages from the school of journalism at Kent State University in Ohio.
  • Poisonkitchen.com:

    http://www.poisonkitchen.com
  • Not exactly a jobs page, and a bit too profane for many; nevertheless, there may be some good job leads to be found here.  If one is seeking an outlet for newsroom rantings, however, this is the place to let it go, which makes it a handy site for job-seekers.
  • The site, nicknamed Pk.com (unlikely to find "preachers' kids at this site, though), is maintained by Andrew Lyons and he's trying to revive the spirit of Mo Tamman's defunct Newsmait (see above).

To provide an idea of how difficult it sometimes becomes to nail down jobs in journalism, I share this anecdote:
I once sent for information on a job posted at a key job-searching site as a means of updating my listing. About an hour after my e-mail request, I was thanked for my interest and told the job had been filled and that it had originally been posted two months prior to the time it was posted on the particular site I will allow to go unnamed (everyone's entitled to one or two oversights). THE MORAL: Leave no stone unturned but don't be surprised if you find worms.

    SPJ's "Jobs for Journalists"
Some job hunters might want to consider subscribing via snail mail to "Jobs for Journalists" Newsletter, information about which is available at:

    Jobs for Journalists Coordinator
    16 South Jackson Street
    Greencastle, IN 46135
    Fax: (317) 653-4631
    Phone (317) 653-3333

Incidentally, Jobs for Journalists will deliver its listings via e-mail.
A former colleague who has subscribed, however, suggested the listing provided little that couldn't be located on the Web.
