SPRING 2003.

St Anthony's High School is Number 1!
The overall spring season championship and the overall school year (fall and spring) championship were won by St Anthony's High School, South Huntington, NY. A prime factor in this was their winning the spring championship regatta at New York Maritime.

For the overall spring season championship, Annapolis High School, Maryland, was second and Pt Pleasant Boro, New Jersey, was third. Click here for the entire spring championship standings. Click here to see the spring regatta results.

For the overall school year (fall and spring) championship Southern Regional High, Manahawkin, New Jersey, was second, and Southern High, Harwood, Maryland, was third. The third and fourth place standings for Southern High and Tom's River South High were particularly impressive since neither one attended the spring championship and were not able to include those points toward their total. FALL 2002.

Congratulations to Southern High School, Harwood, Maryland, for winning the fall MASSA season championship based on their 3rd place in the Season Championships at St Marys and their best two other fall regattas. The St Marys Championships were especially challenging due to very high gusty winds and cold temperatures. Southern Regional High, Manahawkin, NJ was second overall and Hampton Roads Academy, Newport News, VA, was a close third. The fall regatta final results) are posted here. Click here for the final fall championship points standings.

The Cressy qualifers were also challenging this year. They were held at the Brant Beach Yacht Club. With a breeze of 15-18 with gusts to 20, 22 boats competed for the 2 Laser Radial and two Laser Full rig entries to the Nationals. In the Full Rig class, the last two US Sailing Junior Champions (Smythe Trophy) Clay Johnson (Toms River South) and Mike Wilde (McQuaid/Mercy) were 1-2 in every race. In the Radial, Reed Johnson and Kyle Kovacs had similar results.

Not only that - Our district decisively won the Full Rig Cressy National Championships: Clay Johnson and Mike Wilde continued their domination, finishing first and second overall!!! Reed Johnson and Kyle Kovacs had respectable finishes of 6th and 7th in the radial division. - And with a first place in full rig and a sixth place in radial, Tom's River High School was by far the best of any high school that had sailors in each division.
