ALL ABOUT 2000-2001.
Click here to see the CHAMPIONSHIP POINTS STANDINGS FOR THE FULL SCHOOL YEAR (fall and spring). The top 4 were very close. Congratulations to St Mary's High School of Annapolis and the Key School of Annapolis who were tied for first place with 85 points. Southern Regional High School of New Jersey was third with 84 points and Severn School of Annapolis was fourth with 83 points.
Click here to see the spring regatta results. The overall spring championships also had an amazing tie: Pt Pleasant NJ, Key School, Southern Regional NJ, and Hampton Roads, VA, were all tied for first place with 30 points (This is illustrative of the close sailing we had all year)!! The remainder of the spring standings is: St Mary's 29, Severn Annapolis and McQuaid 28, Anne Arundel Christian School 25, Southern High MD 24, Broadneck 16, Gunston 15, St Anthony's 12, Severna Park 10, Patuxent 9, Richard Montgomery 8, Christ Church VA Manhasset and Port Jefferson 6, Stony Brook and Wilde Lake 5, Huntington 4, and Scarsdale 2.
Congratulations to the three schools that qualified to represent MASSA at the Mallory National Doublehanded Championships, held in Charlestown SC. They were Key School, Southern Regional and St Marys. Key School also won the Baker qualifiers and represented MASSA at the Baker National Team Racing Championships at Tabor Academy in Massachusetts.
The FALL FLEET RACING REGATTA results are posted here. The fall champion team is St Mary's of Annapolis. They just barely edged out Key and Severn Schools and Pt. Pleasant. The scores are: St Mary's 56, Key 55, Severn 54, Southern Regional NJ 52, Anne Arundel Christian School 38, Southern High MD 37, Gunston School 34, Annapolis 33, Mamaroneck 31, Hampton Roads Academy 29, Irondequoit 27, Pt Pleasant 22, Stony Brook 19, Severna Park 14, Broadneck 14, Patuxent 12, St Anthonys 10, Richard Montgomery 10, Port Jefferson 7, St Anselms 4, Huntington 4. No other schools qualified for championship points although there were a number of unofficial schools that placed well in individual regattas. The reasons that the other teams were not official team are generally, 1. it may be a composite team (not all from same school), 2. a team lacking official school recognition, 3. a non-member of ISSA/MASSA, or 4. a JV team.
MASSA was well represented by our team at the Cressy National Singlehanded Championships, held this year in Seattle. Special Congratulations are due to Clay Johnson from Toms River, N.J. who finished second in the full rig division. Spencer Weber, who won the Cressy last year, was 6th. The radial rig MASSA sailors did well too, Carl Horrocks was 4th and Jeffrey Bonanni was 6th.
