What's New at Our Preschool?

With
the excitement and anticipation of Christmas behind us, our preschool is
looking forward to a winter of fun and learning. January is our safety
month. We’ll learn how to stay safe in all sorts of situations and have
several visitors who will each help us learn some important safety lessons
and make our learning fun too. With the help of the Odenton Fire
Department, we’ll learn how not to burn while we have lots of fun
practicing to “stop, drop, and roll” if our clothing catches fire (and
pray that it never happens). In the past the fire department has brought
along both a fire truck and an ambulance for the children to see and go
through. One year we were even allowed to use a big fire hose and try on
the fireman’s huge boots, jacket and hat! What a lot of fun we had! But
with the kind of weather we’ve had this year, we’ll be lucky just to see
the firemen themselves! But that’s okay with us!
We’ll discuss many other ways to stay safe. Included will be a lesson and
video about why we should “Never Talk to Strangers,” as well as the
meaning of various safety signs. We’ll also learn when and how to call 911
(and when not to). We’ll also work on learning our entire name (both first
and last names) and our home phone numbers.
Another highlight of our month will be a planned visit by the Anne Arundel
County Police Department. They also usually let us see and sit in their
police cars. We like that too!
Ident-A-Kid of America will again visit this month also. They provide
identification cards consisting of a photograph, fingerprint and vital
statistics of each child. So, that’s our month, and we’ll be busy, as
usual.
