Training Schedule – January - May 2002

Basic Tutor Training – 12 Hour comprehensive new reading tutor training. Participants must attend all 12 hours of training.

January 26 & February 2 9 a.m. - 3 p.m.

April 15, 17, 22, 24 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

August 13, 15, 20, 22 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

ESL – English as a Second Language Tutor Training - Participants must have previously completed a Basic Tutor Training Workshop. Pre-registration is required.

March 19 & 21 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Tutor In-service – 2 hour session on special topics to support tutors' needs. Question and answer session to share successes and challenges. No fee.

February 12 Using Newspapers in Your Reading Program Severna Park Library 6:30 - 8:45 p.m.

Life After Laubach – Advanced training in the Laubach Way to Reading Series, Skillbooks 3 and 4. Tutor certification is a pre-requisite. Pre-registration is required. Training to be held at the Glen Burnie training room. Session also deals with how to help your student make the next step.

^{Challenger – Two videotapes on the use and application of the Challenger series
are available for viewing at the Glen Burnie Office. Anyone interested in viewing the
tapes simply need to arrange a time with the Literacy Manager. This session runs
approximately 1½ hours.

Voyager – Laubach’s new series has subtle differences from the traditional
Laubach Way to Reading. Training sessions will include an overview of the differences in
material presentation, tutor preparation and adapting the material for small group
instruction. Tutors who have students moving into levels 3 and 4 are encouraged to become
familiar with this material. It is very contemporary and focuses on daily living skills.

Training in this material will be held
in the Glen Burnie training room. Pre-registration is required.

Family Literacy Training – Volunteers interested in Family Literacy should
attend an orientation session prior to beginning their work. Family Literacy training is
conducted on site at the Admiral Oaks Apartments. Volunteers can visit on Monday evenings
from 6 to 8 PM. Please e-mail your request for details.}
